Hours of Work and Rosters
As a Transit Officer, you'll be rostered to work on trains, stations and mobile response vehicles.
Shifts generally last for 10 hours and cover the operating hours of suburban trains 7 days a week,
including late night trains until 3am on Friday night/Saturday morning and Saturday night/Sunday morning.
If employed full time you can expect to work for 80 hours per fortnight - this means you would have up to 6 days off every fortnight.
Part time opportunities are also available.
During the day a small number of Transit Officers are rostered on duty. However, there are more shifts
scheduled in the afternoons and evenings because of the greater need for enforcement. So most Transit Officers work the following hours:
- Sunday to Thursday, 2.45pm - 12.45am
- Friday and Saturday, 3.45pm - 2.45am
Transit Officers work in pairs. They may be rostered to selected stations featuring SmartRider card barriers and at other stations depending on Security intelligence.
There are also two Transit Officers on each train from 7pm onward each evening and five Mobile Response Vehicle (Delta) patrols that are station-based and operate up and down the lines 7 days a week.
