Transit Officers are allocated to work along each of the train lines, commencing and finishing shifts at each of the terminating stations
- Armadale, Fremantle, Midland, Currambine, Perth and Mandurah. This plan, known as the "X plan" provides many benefits to Transit Officers and commuters. These include:
- Enabling the Transit Officers to better share in delivering the PTA's goal of providing customer-focused, safe and reliable passenger transport services.
- Introducing line ownership which raises morale by providing Transit Officers with:
- a share in the ownership of their line allowing them to take pride in their line.
- fostering teamwork and camaraderie among the Transit Officers assigned to each of the lines.
- Increased supervision and support from their supervisors on each line.
- Building rapport with regular patrons which improves the Transit Officers' role in helping the Public Transport Authority to provide the best public transport system in the world.
- Increased familiarity with the local area and offenders along the lines, which assists in enhancing security.
New Transit Officers, following successful completion of training are allocated to lines where vacancies exist at that time. However, Transit Officers are provided with the opportunity to relocate to their preferred lines of choice once vacancies become available on that line. This is achieved by staff submitting a Line Swap Form and, as opportunities arise, priority is given to those who submitted their form first or whoever is next on the list.
