Other Law Enforcement Officers

If you are currently serving as a law enforcement officer or have resigned less than one year ago, you may be able to become a Transit Officer without completing the full range of testing.

The Application Process

As a current or ex-law enforcement officer, you will need to do the following:

  • Submit the same Application Form as other applicants
  • Complete an Application for Recognition of Current Competency Form and attach it to your application. The purpose of this additional form is to find out about your prior learning and request an assessment of your current competencies to determine whether you will need to undergo the full range of testing and training.

You will also need to attend a Panel Interview and provide the names of two Referees. Your two referees will need to be in a supervisory role from your last job, who you were directly involved with.

Testing for Law Enforcement Officers

In order to become a Transit Officer, you will still need to meet the requirements of the Physical Assessment.

You will also need to attend a Psychological Assessment with a nominated PTA psychologist. This will determine any factors which could impact your suitability and identify if you need further testing:

  • If you are currently serving as a law enforcement officer, you will require a one-on-one interview assessment with a psychologist.
  • If you are an ex-law enforcement officer who resigned six to 12 months ago, you'll have to complete a psychometric questionnaire and a one-on-one interview assessment.

Whether you're a current or ex law enforcement officer, you must undertake a full Medical Assessment with our health provider. You will also complete a Recognition of Current Competencies assessment, which may reduce your training programme or grant you an accelerated qualification. This is determined by the Registered Training Organisation.
